Contest details:
BLI's Steve and Maria in the morning are searching for Long Island's next big star! Steve and Maria's "Island Idol 4" based on the smash hit TV show "American Idol", will conduct an Island wide search for Long Island's next big star! On Saturday, June 11th, 2005, we'll invite Long Islanders to Sunrise Mall to perform acapella for: 30 seconds. The "judges" will then pick out the top 20 finalists and announce them on the air on Monday, June 13th, 2005. Then we'll post each finalist's picture and song snippet on wbli.com and ask the BLI listeners to go to the website to vote for their favorite. Check out the voting sequence below for further details. There will be a secondary performance of top 10 contestants on a TBD date at a TBD location. All contestants must be available for this performance.

The person voted Steve and Maria's "Island Idol" will receive the following...a chance to record a one-song demo at a session at Battery Studios in NYC, after recording winner will have the opportunity to sit with an A&R representative from Jive Records which is part of the Zomba Label Group. Winner's demo will be critiqued by A&R rep who will hopefully give them advice on how to further their career in the music industry. Winner will also get a star makeover from Cactus Salon and Day Spa and will get limousine service into NYC and a $1,000 to go on a shopping spree for a new wardrobe!

To participate in Steve and Maria's "Island Idol" you must show up to the Sunrise Mall in Massapequa between the hours of 10am-12noon to register. Registration closes at 12 noon. Then starting at 12 noon we'll start calling out numbers of the registrants and have them come up on stage to sing their heart out for: 30 seconds. You must be present when your number is called or you will be disqualified. All participants must be 16 years of age or older and cannot be signed to a record label in order to qualify for the contest.

Qualifying Contest Runs Saturday, June 11th 10am-Noon (registration) and auditions begin at 12 noon.

Voting Round One... 20 finalists, 10 will move on. Polls open 6/13 8amET - 6/19 8pmET. Ten finalists will be eliminated on Monday, 6/20/05 .

Voting Round Two... 10 finalists, 5 will move on. Polls open 6/20 8amET - 6/26 8pmET. Five finalists will be eliminated on Monday, 6/27/05.

Voting Round Three... 5 finalists, 3 will move on. Polls open 6/27 8amET – 7/4 8pmET. Two finalists will be eliminated on Tuesday, 7/5/05.

Voting Round Four... 3 Finalists, 2 will move on. Polls open 7/5 8amET - 7/10 8pmET. One finalists will be eliminated on Monday, 7/11/05.

Voting Round Five... 2 Finalists, 1 will be named ISLAND IDOL. Polls open 7/11 9amET - 7/17 8pmET.

Winner will be named on Monday, 7/18/04 LIVE with Steve & Maria.

RULES:

1. All entrants must be 16 years of age or older on or before June 11, 2005.

2. All entrants under the age of 18 must have parents or guardian present at registration to sign a waiver to participate in contest.

3. A parent or guardian must be present throughout the entire event for anyone under the age of 18 and to sign off on waiver.  Parent or guardian must also be present when contestant goes on stage. If no parent or guardian is present, then that contestant will be disqualified.

4. No purchase necessary.

5. Contest is open to residents of Nassau or Suffolk County, NY, only.

6. The only way to participate in Steve and Maria's "Island Idol" contest is to go to the Sunrise Mall in Massapequa and register between the hours of 10am-12noon on Saturday, June 11, 2005.

7. You must fill out registration form and read all contest rules before you will be entered into the contest.

8. All contestants MUST have valid ID available when completing the registration form.

9. Once you have filled out registration form completely and read contest rules you must sign a waiver stating that you have done this and that you understand all these rules.

10. You will then receive a number and will wait in line until your number is called out to perform your song.

11. You MUST be present when your number is called in order to participate in this contest.

12. If your number is called and you are not present you will NOT be allowed to participate in the contest.

13. Once your number is called you will have: 30 seconds to sing a song solo ACAPELLA (no music) for the judges. No backup singers, dancers, or group performances.

14. A panel of judges may make comments to you on-site but will not reveal finalists until the competition is complete and the judges have made their final decisions.  20 Finalists will be announced on Monday morning, June 13, 2005.

15. Contestants will be judged on, but not limited to, both the quality of their performance and appearance during their performance.

16. ALL DECISIONS BY THE JUDGES ARE FINAL.

17. All performances are being recorded for possible air on WBLI and WBLI.com for internet broadcasts. Pictures will also be taken of all contestants.

18. By participating in this contest contestants give WBLI all rights to broadcast their voice/performance at any time, and publish their picture online.

19. The judges will choose twenty (20) finalists from all the contestants.

20. These finalists will be announced Monday morning, June 13, 2005, between 6a-10a during Steve and Maria in the morning on 106.1FM WBLI AND WBLI.com.

21. Once finalists are announced their photos, info and song snippet will be posted on WBLI.COM.

22. We will then ask listeners to go to the website and vote for their favorite contestants.

23. Once you register to vote, you will only be allowed to vote from your computer ONE time during each voting phase.

24. Throughout the competition some finalists may be asked to sing another song LIVE ON AIR during Steve and Maria in the morning.  If you make it to the rounds in which this takes place, you will be asked to come to the station to do this.  These performances can be karaoke style with backup instrumental music provided by the contestants.

25. All finalists must be available at anytime between June 13, 2005 and July 18, 2005. Failure to do so will result in elimination from the contest.

26. BLI reserves the right to choose alternate finalists should the need arise.

28. This grand prize winner will be chosen by the WBLI audience via email votes and all decisions will be final.

29. BLI is not responsible for any computer malfunctions that may occur during the voting.

30. Grand prize winner will be announced on Monday, 7/18/04 LIVE with Steve & Maria.

31. The winner of Steve and Maria's "Island Idol" contest will receive the following prize:  a chance to record a 1 song demo at Battery Park Studios in NYC, a producer who will work on the song with them, a meeting with a Jive Records A&R Representative after song is recorded, a limousine into NYC and $1,000 cash for a shopping spree, a makeover from Cactus Salon and Day Spa including but not limited to hair and makeup, plus winner will be asked to perform at various BLI events throughout the year.

32. Total estimated value of prize:  $11,000 (this is just an estimated value which may be greater or lesser depending on how long recording session takes)

35. Employees, associates, interns, other related sponsors of WBLI and our parent company, Cox Enterprises, employees of Sunrise Mall, Jive Records and the Zomba Label Group and their immediate families and any employees from other radio stations shall be ineligible to participate in this contest. The term "immediate families" includes spouses, grandparents, parents, siblings, children and grandchildren.

36. All entries will become the property of Cox Radio Long Island, WBLI and Steve and Maria in the morning.

37. There will be no substitution for prizes. Participation in the contest and the prizes awarded are non-transferable. Failure to collect the prize constitutes forfeiture of the prize. If forfeited, the prize will remain the property of WBLI.

38. By participating in the 'Steve and Maria's "Island Idol" contest, winners and contestants grant permission to WBLI to use their name, photograph, voice and or likeness for advertising and/or publicity purposes without additional consideration.

39. Winners are responsible for all federal, state and local taxes in conjunction with said prize. Any additional costs related to prize incurred as a result of accepting said prize is the sole responsibility of the winner.

40. Winner's eligibility must be proven in person with proper identification: Valid Driver's License, State ID, Social Security, Birth Certificate, Passport, etc.

41. WBLI reserves the right to make rules or contest changes without notice at any time. WBLI also reserves the right to change the aforementioned contest dates without notice.

42. The decision of the WBLI management in the interpretation of these rules is final. By participating, persons agree to be bound by the decision of the judges and the official rules.

43. If a winner is found in violation of these rules, he/she may be required to forfeit his/her prize.

44. WBLI and the Sunrise Mall and its representatives, agencies and employees are not responsible for any liabilities arising directly or indirectly from the participating in this contest and the award and or use of the prize.

45. Once you have won a contest neither you nor any member of your family or household can win this or another BLI contest for 30 Days.

46. Failure to observe any of the above rules absolves WBLI of any and all liability and no prize awards will be considered for reimbursement.

47. Additional rules may be added for specific contests at the discretion of the station and these rules can change at any time without prior notice.
