MTA to end sale of iconic MetroCards by the end of year

According to News 12, the MTA will be eliminating the iconic “MetroCard” by December 31, 2025. The reason? The MTA is looking to make way to a tap-and-go option for riders.

Though I’m sad to see the iconic card go, I think this will make commuting by the subway easier! After all...the worst feeling is swiping at the turnstile and STILL not being able to go through.

Is there a way to make a MetroCard tap-and-go friendly for those who like having a MetroCard? We’ll have to see if that is a thing!

MetroCards will still be accepted through 2026.
