There are a lot of strange buildings throughout the world, and there are a lot of hyper-modern designs . . . But NYC may be building the craziest one yet.
There’s a building proposal for Manhattan that’s being called the “Big bend.” it has an upside-down u-shape, and is hollow in the middle.
Think of it as a massive paperclip standing up . . . And actually, that is what it looks like.
There are big windows up each side . . . Even across the loop at the top. And to navigate it, there would be elevators that could operate around the curves.
If it’s built, it would be the tallest building in the western hemisphere at 2,000 feet high. That’s a couple hundred feet taller than the one world trade center.
The Burj Khalifa building in Dubai is the world’s tallest structure at 2,722 feet high.
The designer says it would be “One of the most prestigious buildings in Manhattan.” they also note that it would fit within NY’s tight zoning restrictions, which make it challenging to build new skyscrapers. But some people claim it’ll “Ruin” NY’s skyline. In any event, the building has been going through various proposal stages for several years . . . but nothing has been greenlit yet.
Construction has begun on the future tallest building in NYC 🏙️ Known as the "Big Bend," the 57th Street tower will be a thousand feet taller than the current record holder, making it the tallest in the western hemisphere and the 3rd tallest in the world. pic.twitter.com/JmAVLhDsXB
