It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Here’s how I like to get into the holiday season!
1. Build a gingerbread house
A tradition I’ve loved at a young age, building a gingerbread house! It’s such a fun way to get into the holiday spirit! Unless…of course…you’re Ron Swanson from Parks & Rec!
2. Drinking hot cocoa!
Hot cocoa is the best way to stay warm on a chilly day! I love to drink hot cocoa by a fireplace or even a fire pit. I make it a tradition to visit Waterdrinker Farm in Manorville to visit their winter wonderland. I get hot chocolate, look at the holiday lights and sit by their fire pits. It’s the definition of cozy!
3. Lighting festive candles!
Sugar cookie, holiday pine, whatever scent you love…it’s the best way to get into the holidays, scent and sense wise! My personal favorite? Anything balsam! I love the natural pine scents!
4. Bake holiday cookies
I’m a SUCKER for holiday cookies! You can make homemade cookies or even buy those adorably festive Pillsbury cookies! It’s a great way thing to give out for the holidays at your job or at a gathering. Who could say NO to a warm, delicious cookie? I know I can’t!
5. Give back
It’s so great to give back this time of year! I love to find ways to give back locally. If you’re looking to as well, 106.1 BLI is partnered with the 33rd Annual John Theissen Toy Drive. Bring an unwrapped toy to the BLI studios or any of our other drop off locations! More info can be found here.
6. Decorate your space!
Whether you transform your whole house into a winter wonderland or just like hanging up colored lights, decorating your space is the best way to get into the festive spirit! I love to decorate my apartment the day after Thanksgiving!
7. Listen to the “right amount” of holiday music!
We’re ready to “Rock Around The Christmas Tree” and have a “Holly Jolly Christmas” with holiday music. 106.1 BLI plays just the right amount of holiday music!
8. Visit a tree lighting!
Whether you love visiting the Belmont tree lighting, Brookhaven tree lighting, or enjoy watching the Rockefeller tree lighting, it’s a GREAT way to get into the holiday spirit! I visited the Smithtown tree lighting last year and LOVED all the festive lights.
9. Watch a holiday movie
Home Alone, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Elf, Miracle on 34th Street, Die Hard, whatever “festive” movie is your favorite this time of year, it’s certainly worth a watch! It’s a fun way to get into the holiday spirit! If you’re watching the Hallmark Channel and see this cute little red truck, you KNOW it’s gonna be a good holiday movie!
Also I can’t wait to see “A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina” coming to Netflix on December 6th.
10. See holiday lights with cozy clothes!
The perfect night: hot cocoa, cozy clothes, and looking at holiday lights! 106.1 BLI is giving you the chance to win tickets to Magic of Lights at Jones Beach! Enter for your chance to win here. I love driving around Long Island looking at all the incredible light displays!
Hope this gets you in the holly jolly spirit this holiday season!
