Myles Smith

A singer and songwriter whose sweetly sad tunes are warm and emotionally open, Myles Smith blends the gentle passion of his vocals with music that incorporates elements of contemporary folk, indie pop, and a dash of Americana. After finding an audience on social media, he developed an international following with the 2024 EP A Minute... and its break-out hit single "Stargazing."

Smith was born and raised in Luton, an ethnically diverse community in Bedfordshire, England. He grew up listening to a broad range of music, including pop-punk, singer/songwriters, and hip-hop. As his interest in music grew, he bought a guitar and learned to play. He began playing covers at parties and open-mike nights, with his repertoire focusing on songwriters such as Ed Sheeran, Marcus Mumford, and Chris Martin. The next step was to produce homemade videos of his performances, which he shared on social media. In 2020, Smith also released an eight-song album called Scars. However, his initial break came in 2022 when he posted a stripped-down cover of the Neighbourhood's hit "Sweater Weather." The clip went viral, and before long he had landed a contract with RCA.

Having established himself as a vocalist, Smith next focused on his songwriting. Tunes like "Memories (I Don't Have)," co-written with Adam Argyle, and "River," penned in collaboration with Peter Fenn and Jesse Fink, were streaming hits, and "Solo" and "My Home" (both written by Smith and Fenn) became major successes, each with streaming figures well into eight figures. In March 2024, Smith released the EP You Promised a Lifetime, which gathered many of these previously released songs, along with the singles "Betting on Us" and "Sweet Love." Another major breakthrough came in May 2024 with the release of his single "Stargazing." A lyrical and folky anthem with a hooky, clap-along chorus, it hit number four in the U.K. and cracked the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. Smith followed this up with two more charting singles, "Wait for You" and "Nice to Meet You," and included all three tracks on his next EP, A Minute..., which he released in November. ~ Mark Deming
